Midlife Changes, Challenges and What Comes Next

For mums in their midlife, change is everywhere- family, children, their bodies. It can be hard to process and navigate whilst keeping the show on the road.

Letting Go

We found this tiny dinosaur in our car today, a relic of days gone by. We found it whilst clearing out the car which has sadly gone to car heaven after 12 years of service to our family.

I know it’s just a car, but we feel bereft. It’s not really the metal we’re sad about, it’s the acceptance that a stage of our lives as a family has gone.

For us the car conjures up many, many happy memories of two little boys, a puppy and tent in the back, off on adventures across the UK and France.

Now our eldest is about to embark on his GCSE’s and we’re replacing this car with a smaller one for them to learn to drive in. I mean it blows our mind that we’re old enough for this to be happening!

And that’s the crux of why I coach mums-especially around midlife- as these milestone transitions can be hard to navigate. They can leave you feeling lost and unsure about the future.

My journey

I know; I struggled to find personal meaning and purpose as my kids needed me less. I have always loved being a mum and was very happy and grateful to have the opportunity to be a full-time mum to two small boys. But as time ticked by, I was unsure what direction to take as they began to grow up.  Whilst I still needed – and wanted – to be around for them, I also wanted something more for me too.

I spent years feeling a little lost, going around in circles with decisions and feeling my confidence ebb away. Deep down I knew I had more to give.

When I trained to be a coach, I realised that it brought together so many of my personal and professional skills and now I do what I’ve always wanted to do- help and support others.

Do I wish I’d had a coach back then?

Absolutely.

Did I know what a life coach was?

No, but I do remember a conversation with friends along the lines of “I could do with a careers advisor like we had in school.”

I now know I needed more than career advice, I needed to find my purpose again, but I wanted someone to talk it through with. Luckily, that’s where I can help YOU!
